Spicing Up a Store-bought Pie

Sometimes, you need a nice dessert but just don't have the time to make it from scratch.  This tip was given to me by my dear Grandma Wood one Christmas. We all raved over her pies but had no idea that she hadn't made them herself!

You get a great tasting pie with very little effort.  If you have a small glass pie dish, you can really complete the effect.  (I must have taken a few too many of these pies to friends' homes because my glass pie dishes are all missing--oops!)

All you do  is to take the frozen pie out of the box and transfer it to an 8" glass pie dish.
Then cut several slits in the top according to the package directions.

Next 'dot' it with pats of butter and sprinkle the pie generously (lots and lots) with white sugar. (No one said it was supposed to be 'healthy'...just yummy!!) Then put it in the oven on a cookie sheet (to avoid spills), and bake according to the directions on the box. Wow! It tastes fabulous and looks just great.
If you have extra time (which I'm assuming you don't if you are taking this shortcut), you can always defrost an extra pie crust and cut out heart shapes with a cookie cutter. Just lay them between the slits. Now that will really fool them!

Happy Homemaking!
